Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Your email address and a salted hash of your password (never the password itself).
• Your display name and proficiency level, given during onboarding.
• Your learning activity: which lessons you've completed and when, your quiz scores, and the points and streaks worked out from them.
• If you subscribe: your Stripe customer ID and subscription status. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
• A daily count of AI tutor messages, used for fair-use limits.
• Messages you send the AI tutor, for the duration of that request — we don't store chat history on our servers.
• If you apply to contribute: your name, email, dialect, family roots, where you live and any message you include. Approved contributors also provide their age, plus the text answers and voice recordings they submit, which we use to build lessons, pronunciation audio and language tools.

Third parties we use

• Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI — whichever powers the AI tutor for your session receives the messages you send it, to generate a reply.
• Neon — hosts our Postgres database (account, profile, and progress data).
• Resend — sends transactional emails (password reset, teacher invites, submission confirmations, and new-task notices), and sees the addresses those messages are sent to.
• Stripe — takes subscription payments and handles billing, and receives your email address and payment details.
• Vercel — hosts this website and the app, and stores contributor voice recordings (Vercel Blob).

Cookies

We use one strictly-necessary session cookie to keep you signed in. We don't currently use analytics or advertising cookies.

Retention & deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. To delete your account and data, contact us at the address below — we don't yet have a self-service delete option.
